This is a 6 months fixed term contract part-time (15 hours) position iDeaf – London Deaf Information Service is a Deaf-led and Deaf-run organisation, where we concentrate on improving the standard of living, the health and well being and develop skills for better job prospects for Deaf people throughout London and beyond. We now have staff located in East London, Victoria, Greenwich, London Bridge, Peterborough, and Brighton this provides ease of access to Deaf people from all over London and beyond.

This role Employment Advisor specialises in supporting service users in obtaining and continuing in employment. The Employment Advisor will identify employment opportunities for people with disabilities or the long-term unemployed by contacting employers, finding out about job openings and trying to match them up with service users whose skills and abilities they have assessed. They will also assist people that have been referred from the JobCentres, and other organisations with the LDIS Employment Service team. You may also help with practical matters such as conducting an online or paper-based Universal Job Profile to determine possible career choices, preparing CVs and coaching in interview skills. In addition, you may assess any support service users may need in carrying out their job ? such as special equipment, adaptations.

Employment Advisors also work with employers, helping ease the transition into the workplace and/or helping create individual training programmes, if required. They may arrange training for service users before putting them forward for work. Part of the job involves regular communication with local employers to keep up-to-date with opportunities, and putting forward the idea of employing someone who is long-term unemployed (but perhaps newly retrained) or with a disability.

Responsibilities include: Making sure all client information is updated on the system. Helping clients into work following a support plan of engagement with agencies and other employment support staff. Working with clients, having agreements to gather, record and store their information whilst completing application forms. Liaise with DWP departments in regards to clients? provisions, benefits and support to transition clients into employment. Working alongside our sister company DMCS Employment Service to ensure the quality of services and support is maintained to a high standard. Helping clients to set up their online Universal Job Match Ensure communication and engagement between LDIS and DMCS in reaching out to other agencies in promoting current projects. Supporting clients to complete Universal Job questionnaires and discuss potential job opportunities.

Lead a Drop In Service or set up Job Club at: PeoplePlus, Jobcentres, Colleges or Universities. Supporting Employment Admin in updating clients CV and job application forms. Engaging with clients and external services. Researching and providing information about Further Education. Ensure communication support and provisions are made to secure interviews and to maintain employment.
