Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock: Webb’s Universe

Event start date Nov

2024

Blast off to the depths of the universe with space scientist Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock as she talks about her latest book, exploring the depths of our cosmos.

Webb’s Universe is the definitive book on the James Webb Space Telescope, with a full array of stunning images, and clear explanations written by space expert and and science educator Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock, who was one of the British space scientists to work on the telescope.

Bringing her passion as well as her expert knowledge of space and the JWST in particular, she demystifies these stunning images and breaks down the essential science behind each picture to show clearly what we’re seeing and learning from the world’s most powerful space telescope. Despite the huge advances in space technology in recent decades, much of the universe remains a source of mystery, often provoking more questions than answers.

Keen to follow on from the findings of the Hubble telescope, launched in 1990, NASA successfully launched the James Webb Space Telescope in December 2021 to study every phase of the history of our universe.

The first stunningly clear images of the very depths of the universe using James Webb’s ground-breaking infrared technology have forever changed the way we see and understand the origins of our existence.
