Rising from the Water: A celebration with Yasmeen Lari & Material Cultures

Join us for a free event to celebrate a brand new commission ‘Rising from the Water’, built by architecture students through a series of workshops with Material Cultures and Yasmeen Lari. The structure uses natural materials such as willow and reeds, which can be found at the water’s edge in nearby Barking Riverside, and sparks conversations about climate change, our industrial heritage and the rising risk of flooding in East London.

The celebration event will begin with some light breakfast before talks by Yasmeen Lari, Pakistan’s first female architect, and George Massoud, Director of Material Cultures. There will also be opportunities for tours of the installation led by the young people who built it, and a small display to show the co-build process.
