Susanna Clarke: Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell

Event start date Oct

2024

Susanna Clarke conjures tales from her career in a conversation with the Reverend Richard Coles, on the 20th anniversary of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell.

It’s a busy autumn for Susanna Clarke, with the publication of two books: the 20th anniversary edition of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, and a new, exquisitely written and fantastical short story, The Wood at Midwinter, rooted in a corner of the Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell universe, in which an unusual girl, Merowdis, can talk to animals and trees.

Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell was longlisted for the Man Booker Prize and won the British Book Awards Newcomer of the Year, the Hugo Award and the World Fantasy Award. It has sold over four million copies worldwide, been translated into 34 languages, and was adapted into a major primetime series by the BBC starring Bertie Carvel and Eddie Marsan.
